About Tabreed

Tabreed is a leading international investor, owner, developer and operator of district cooling and sustainable energy solutions, headquartered in the UAE. The company was founded in 1998 and commissioned its first district cooling plant in Sweihan, Abu Dhabi, in 1999. Since its inception, Tabreed has become the world’s leading district cooling company and a partner of choice for organisations across the region, providing reliable, efficient and environmentally friendly cooling services. Tabreed’s cooling infrastructure has played an integral role in the GCC’s rapid growth and development.

Through long-term contracts, Tabreed provides cooling as a service for residential and commercial buildings and developments. Currently, through its 84 plants, Tabreed’s 1.2 million refrigeration tons of cooling capacity provides services to more than 350 million square feet of built area across four countries. Listed on Dubai Financial Market, the company is majority owned by Mubadala (sovereign investment fund of the Abu Dhabi Government) and ENGIE (the world’s largest independent power producer).

Tabreed’s district cooling plants provide essential cooling to iconic landmarks, such as the Burj Khalifa, The Dubai Mall, Dubai Metro, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Louvre Abu Dhabi and Yas Island, as well as key locations in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Oman.

District cooling uses, on average, half the energy consumed by traditional cooling methods and Tabreed has set its own targets to support energy consumption reduction and emission prevention, through innovative technology solutions and environmentally friendly practices. The company’s sustainability priorities encompass three main pillars, which are aligned with its values: People, Community and Environment.

Recognising a need for world-class and sustainable cooling infrastructure, Tabreed expanded into India during 2019. The company signed a 32-year concession agreement to invest, develop and operate a district cooling scheme for the city of Amaravati in Andhra Pradesh (now on hold), and has recently entered a joint venture partnership with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to set up a district energy investment platform. Tabreed India is supporting private sector developments, key industry organisations and think tanks to support the implementation of district cooling projects.
