Balawant is a Founder and Managing Director of Idam Infrastructure Advisory Private Limited, Consulting and Services company with 80+ employees and offices in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Pune. He is also director on the boards of Enfragy Solutions and Aurus Lending Solutions Pvt Ltd. Balawant had started Origin Renewables Pvt Ltd, an innovative platform for solar rooftop services which he exited in 2020 by selling it to private equity. Balawant is a Founder Member and Secretary of Indian Renewable Energy Federation. He is a member of Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineer (IEEE) and Life Member of Computer Society of India. In Decarbonisation space, Balawant has been working on Industrial Energy Efficiency, Demand Side Management, Energy Transition and Industrial Decarbonisation. He was also involved in design of ‘Perform, Achieve and Trade’ mechanism, a market-based mechanism for promotion of industrial energy efficiency. He is currently leading Industrial Decarbonisation workstream which is working on 8 key large industrial sectors such as steel, cement, aluminium, textiles, tyres, etc. Apart from India, he has worked on engagements in several countries such as Maldives, Eswatini, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Thailand, Micronesia, etc. Balawant is an electrical engineer with post graduation in both finance and software technology.
